| ORHS / Academic Priorities Senior Year
1) Academics still count (acdemic rigor is important) 2) File with NCAA Clearinghouse for Div I or Div II college athletics 3) Have a Plan of Action (ie. list of colleges to apply to or other future plans) 4) Get Organized (for applying to colleges, financial aid, scholarships) 5) Regional College Fair is Monday, October 6th from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at Union Mine HS 6) Request out-of-state & private college applications (if applicable) www.collegeboard.com 7) Take/retake SATs and ACT tests in the fall (December 2008 is the last "on time" test date for most colleges) Check with colleges regarding their deadlines 8) Write your college essay/personal statement, if your colleges need one 9) Apply to colleges (UC and CSU prefer online applications for Class of 2009) (UC & CSU Majors) 10) Request your official SAT or ACT test scores sent to colleges 11) Check with college housing office to see if you need to add name to a list or apply early (prior to acceptance) 12) Check with college financial aid offices about special scholarships/programs (prior to acceptance) 13) Start applying for scholarships (See Mrs. Lasko for assistance) ORHS Available Scholarships EDC-Scholarship Website 14) Request a FAFSA Pin Number prior to Januray 1st 2009 (if possible) 15) Attend the joint Oak Ridge/Ponderosa Financial Aid Night scheduled for Wednesday, January 7th at Ponderosa High School 16) File FAFSA (universal financial aid form) after Januray 1st, online or paper copy 17) Complete the GPA Verification Form (Cal Grants) / must be mailed by March 2nd 18) Private College Students: the CSS Profile (Financial Aid Form) is required by some privates (Check with college EARLY) 19) Students who will be attending a Community College should: Apply Online prior to taking the Community College Assessment. Application Workshops: February 23 & 24th (sign-up) Take the Community College Assessment Test in March 2009 @ ORHS (March 3, 4, 5, & 6) Check which assessments are acceptable at various community colleges Attend the Community College Information Day (March 12th) @ ORHS (8:30 to 10:30 AM) (Students must sign-up) Community College Orientation with a Community College Counselor @ ORHS (TBA) 20) Students who will be attending a CSU may need to take the EPT/ELM (English/Math Placement) Contact CSUS for more information (916) 278-6296 21) Students who will be attending a UC will be required to take the Analytical Writing Placement Exam, formerly Subject A test Contact UC Davis for more information (800) 839-8507 22) Send your Statement of Intent to Register/Enroll no later than May 1st (postmarked) to the 4-year college you will be attending 23) Take AP exams, if applicable 24) Request a final transcript sent to your college (this is done at senior checkout, during the last week of school) |
