Academic Priorities for Sophomore Year



   1
) Academics Count - Admissions decisions are based on 10th & 11th year grades in "a - g" academic coursework
  2) 
Extracurricular Activities Count, take on leadership roles whenever possible
  3) 
Community Service is a great way to be exposed to work environments and connect with the local community
 
4) Take the PSAT in the fall (recommended for 10th & 11th graders)
  5)  Attend College Fair 
Regional College Fair @ Union Mine HS on Mon., October 6th from 6:30 - 8:30 PM
  6)  Take a Career Assessment (given to 10th grade students in the fall) 
(About the Self Directed Search)
  7)  Set up an appointment to
meet with my ORHS counselor to discuss future options and plan Junior year classes
  8) 
Visit colleges over spring and summer breaks
  9)  Take
AP and SAT Subject Tests in the same year you take those classes (ie. World History, Biology, Chemistry)
  10)
Develop a resume to record your activities, community service, work experience, honors and awards
